Endorsed Prayer: Make Us One that the World May Believe (John 17:21)

Day 22

Jesus prayed for the disciples,

"20 Not for these only do I pray, but for those also who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me

John 17:20-21

My Prayer

My Heavenly Father, before Passover, just before Jesus was arrested and crucified, Jesus had a long conversation with His disciples in what we call The Upper Room Discourse (John 13-17). The above quote is from chapter seventeen. The entire chapter is a prayer of Jesus to You Father about the disciples.

In His time on the earth, Jesus trained twelve men in the spiritual work of making disciples. In this prayer, Jesus refers to them forty times. He even prayed for me. I see the words "Not for these only do I pray, but for those also who will believe in me through their word" in verse 20. Your words Father, have been passed from person to person for two thousand years, until they came to me. I have believed "through their word". I thank You for those You have sent to feed me from Your word.

Father, Your Son's prayer is for unity among believers... "that they may all be one" (verse 21). One purpose of this unity is "that the world may believe that you sent me" (verse 21). When the world sees the miracle of true unity, it will be a sign to them. It will be a sign that You sent Jesus.  So, the prayer for unity among believers is a prayer of evangelism!

In John 13:35, Your Son Jesus said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

I have seen the miraculous unity among Christians that crosses racial, cultural and economic boundaries. In my church I have seen the homeless and the surgeon worship together. In small Bible Study / Prayer meetings that I have lead, we have the wealthy and the poor, young and old, different races... sharing our life struggles, praying, encouraging, reading scripture together. The same spirit is within each of us.

As Your Son prayed, I pray... for of unity among believers... among acquaintances, family, church, workplace and nation. I pray that the world would see, and believe.

Unity among believers is granted by You Father, as we ask for it in prayer! Realities change in the invisible spiritual realm as we pray! Praise to Your name!

In this passage, John 17:20-21, You revealed one of the Endorsed Prayers... The prayer is "Make Us One, so the world will see and believe that You have sent the Son!" Thank you for revealing this in Your word! For, how can we walk by the Spirit, if we don't know how to pray?

Heavenly Father, teach us the prayers which scripture has taught us to pray. By Your Spirit, lead Your children to click this link: "How to Pray: Introduction to the Endorsed Prayers".

You deserve all praise!

Amen.
