P: I Praise you, even in Pain!
- "Through him, then, let's offer up a sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of lips which proclaim allegiance to his name" (Hebrews 13:15).
Prayerful Observations:
We should praise God continually, even when suffering. This is a hallmark of the Sixth Path. We can't obey this admonition on our own. Notice that the scripture begins with the words "through him". God gives us the power to praise through the Holy Spirit. If we try really hard to praise God more and more, we will fail. Praise becomes a larger part of our lives as we pray the Endorsed Prayers, especially the prayers asking for greater revelation, faith and love. As God grants our requests it becomes natural to praise him. Often He opens our eyes through suffering.
- "Before I was afflicted, I went astray; but now I observe your word... It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes" (Psalm 119:67, 71).
Prayerful Observation:
Suffering brings us back to God's word. We learn from suffering.
That leads us to the next passage. In these words, God provides an example of praise in the face of disaster.
17 "For though the fig tree doesn't flourish,
nor fruit be in the vines;
the labor of the olive fails,
the fields yield no food;
the flocks are cut off from the fold,
and there is no herd in the stalls:
18 yet I will rejoice in Yahweh.
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
19 Yahweh, the Lord, is my strength.
He makes my feet like deer's feet,
and enables me to go in high places" (Habakkuk 3:17-19).
Instead of offering a prayerful observation regarding this passage, I suggest that you take a moment and PRAY this praise to God. PRAY the passage in the way of the Fifth Path as described in subchapters 1.1 and 1.2.
