Daily Devotional Prayers
to Walk by the Spirit
•••

No one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3)

Day 26

"Therefore I make known to you that no man speaking by God's Spirit says, "Jesus is accursed." No one can say, "Jesus is Lord," but by the Holy Spirit."

1 Corinthians 12:3

My Prayer

Yahweh, my Heavenly Father, thank You for this scripture.Y I praise You for the power that is in it. I thank You for what You will do through it (Isaiah 55:11). Please reveal its meaning to our minds (Psalm 119:18). For all who read here, please lead them to pray this page with me...

My Father, in this verse You say "no man speaking by God's Spirit says, "Jesus is accursed" (1 Corinthians 12:3).  This book, 1 Corinthians, was penned by the apostle Paul upon Your divine inspiration. So, Paul wrote and undoubtedly spoke those words, "Jesus is accursed". And Paul did so on Your instruction.

So, some say that You intend this scripture to pertain to words spoken as an assertion of truth. In other words, I can communicate that other people say that "Jesus is accursed" without asserting myself that the statement is true. So, they would understand You to mean by 1 Corinthians 12:3 that no man speaking "by God's Spirit" is asserting that "Jesus is accursed".

But my Father, this understanding doesn't grasp the significance of the phrase "by God's Spirit". It also does not grasp the significance of the phrase which appears at the end of the verse, "by the Holy Spirit". They seem to think, as many rule followers do, that "speaking by God's Spirit" merely means to be influenced by Your Spirit. As rule followers, instead of being Spirit followers, they don't believe that You put thoughts into the minds of Your children.

So, they only believe that, in some nebulous way, You influence their thoughts. As mere rule followers, they don't believe that You will put a perfect, inerrant thought into the mind of Your children. They think You merely influence Your children. So, after being influenced, Your child will utter statements that are mostly true, partially true or most likely to be true. These are statements which may contain error.

And those mostly true, partially true or most likely to be true statements are characterized by rule followers as "speaking by God's Spirit" or speaking "by the Holy Spirit". The rule follower, in this case, seems to be unaware that he is saying that error may be present as one speaks "by God's Spirit" or "by the Holy Spirit".

Heavenly Father,

Do You put ideas into our minds?

Your word says that You do. You have revealed, from the scriptures, that the Holy Spirit prophesies, preaches, teaches, speaks through us, provides words for witnessing, testifies, reminds us of scripture, leads, warns and intercedes for us.3.3 You have made it absolutely certain, that You place ideas and words into our minds.

To deny this spiritual communication from You is a denial of our spiritual fellowship with You. Those who deny this communication think that walking by the Spirit is walking by rules.4.7 Please, my Lord, reveal to the rule followers that You will not place imperfect words and ideas into our minds. They live as if they are in the Old Covenant, "under law" instead of the New Covenant of the Spirit.A3

With these truths in mind, it is easy to understand the verse:

  • "no man speaking by God's Spirit says, 'Jesus is accursed.' No one can say, 'Jesus is Lord," but by the Holy Spirit" (1 Corinthians 12:3).

So, the words "Jesus is accursed", spoken as an assertion of truth, have never been brought into anyone's mind by You, leading to their speaking of those words. And, the words "Jesus is Lord", spoken as a sincere assertion of truth, can only occur after Your Holy Spirit puts those words into a person's mind. I see "sincere assertion" because of Your words in Matthew 7:3-23, especially verse 21.

So, I see in the scriptures that You place ideas into our minds.

Heavenly Father,

Can Satan put ideas into our minds?

Thank You Father. You have preserved the account of Ananias to answer this question:

  • "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land?" (Acts 5:3).

You said that "Satan filled" his "heart". This can only mean one of three things. Either Satan put an idea into Ananias' mind, tempted him or put the desire for sin into his heart. But Satan does not have power over believers to control our desires (Colossians 1:13, Romans 6:6). So, he couldn't put sinful desire into Ananias' heart. Furthermore, James 1:14 says that our evil desires are our own. The phrase "Satan filled your heart" goes far beyond mere temptation. So, Your word must be saying that Satan can put ideas into our minds.

So, my Father, teach us to recognize Your voice in our minds as Jesus said:

  • "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27).

Lord, please teach the rule followers to "walk by the Spirit" (Galatians 5:16, 25). Teach them that walking "by the Spirit" has something to do with a Spirit.4.7

I praise Your name!

In this passage, 1 Corinthians 12:3, You revealed three words which You place in the minds of Your children through the Holy Spirit... You reveal to our minds that "Jesus is Lord!" Thank you for revealing this in Your word! For, how can we walk by the Spirit, if we don't recognize the words of the Holy Spirit in our minds?

Heavenly Father, teach us more about the communications of the Holy Spirit. By Your Spirit, lead Your children to click this link: "Spiritual Communication"

You deserve all praise!

Amen.
