The Endorsed Prayer of Wisdom: Faith Without Doubt (James 1:5-7)

Day 4

"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed. For that man shouldn't think that he will receive anything from the Lord"

James 1:5-7

Prayer

My Lord, You grant wisdom to those who ask in faith, without doubt. If we believe that You will reveal wisdom through our prayer, You will. If we don't, You won't. Regarding one who asks with doubts, the passage says: "For that man shouldn't think that he will receive anything from the Lord."

My Lord, while You will not grant a request that was prayed in doubt because of the prayer; I know that You may grant it for another reason. In Your grace and in the implementation of Your will, You may provide the information we need, though not in response to our prayer.

So my sovereign Lord, our unbelief in asking for wisdom does not tie Your hands. Our doubts do not make it impossible for You to grant us wisdom according to Your sovereign plan.

Nevertheless, to expect a positive answer to our prayer for wisdom, we must ask in faith and without doubt. If I have doubts, I must ask You to increase my faith by the Endorsed Prayer of Faith4.3a

I see Lord, that the immediate context of the wisdom passage from James is about trials (verses 2-4). According to Your word, we may not receive spiritual communication from You in our trials if we don't believe that You will communicate information into our mind. Wisdom is granted by You to those who ask in faith, without doubt. If we believe that You will reveal wisdom through our prayer, You will. If we don't, You won't.

And my Lord... if you will not provide wisdom to one who prays the Endorsed Prayer of Wisdom, will you also not provide answers to the other Endorsed Prayers of Spiritual Communication,  if they are prayed with doubt?4.2

Like the Endorsed Prayers of:

  • Knowledge of Your Will
  • Words to Present the Gospel
  • Revelation of Your Word

It seems apparent, that if You will not answer the prayer of a doubter for wisdom, the same would apply to the other three prayers.

My Lord, multiply our faith, 1000 fold and 1000 fold and 1000 fold, again and again and again! Then we will hear You. Then we can walk by the Spirit!

Amen.
