What does Luke 24:45 mean? Jesus opened their minds to understand Scripture

Day 5

"
"Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures"

Luke 24:45

(Jesus opened their minds.)

My Prayer

Yahweh, my Heavenly Father, thank You for this scripture.Y I praise You for the power that is in it and thank You for what You will do through it (Isaiah 55:11). Please reveal its meaning to our minds (Psalm 119:18)...

My Heavenly Father, without Your sovereign grace, we do not understand.

Your Son repeatedly told the disciples that he would be killed and then rise from the dead but they did not understand (Luke 24:7). So, after He was crucified and buried some disciples came to His tomb to apply spices and perfumes to the body (Luke 23:55-24:2). But His body was not there! They ran to tell Peter and John (John 20:2). Peter and John ran to the tomb (John 20:3-4) and saw the empty tomb. In that same day, two disciples were walking the road to Emmaus. They were talking about the empty tomb and Jesus appeared to them. He walked with them and talked with them, but...

"their eyes were kept from recognizing him" (Luke 24:16, 13-16).

Later, Jesus ate with them, and...

"Their eyes were opened and they recognized him, then he vanished out of their sight' (Luke 24:31).

Then after a short time Your Son appeared to the disciples again and...

"Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures" (Luke 24:45).

Jesus opened their eyes to understand scripture!

Some say that understanding scripture comes by finding the best teachers, studying hard or going to seminary. But scripture tells us that understanding of scripture is a gift from You to converts with soft hearts and a willingness to obey, who receive understanding by zealously seeking it through prayerful meditation on scripture.1.5e

In order for us to have understanding, You must give it to us. You must place the truth into our minds. Understanding is a gift from You. Instead of being a  product of dedicated scholarship, understanding of scripture is a supernatural event!

We receive understanding of scripture by asking for it!1.5d(II)

In this passage, Luke 24:45, You revealed just one of the conditions for understanding the Bible... that You open our eyes! Thank you for revealing this in Your word! For, how can we walk by the Spirit, if we don't know how to understand scripture?

Heavenly Father, teach us how to understand scripture. By Your Spirit, lead Your children to click this link: "Conditions for Understanding the Word"

You deserve all praise!

Amen.
