The Endorsed Prayer of Obedience: 2 Corinthians 13:7

Day 2

"Now I pray to God that you do no evil"

(2 Corinthians 13:7).

Prayer

My Heavenly Father, these are the words which You gave to Paul the apostle to send to the Church at Corinth. Obedience is something that You grant to Your children through prayers of faith.4.3f If we believe that You will grant obedience through our prayer, You will. If we don't, You won't. You have told us in James 1:5-7 that we shouldn't expect anything from prayers prayed with doubt.4.2a

It is a matter of "who" do we trust for our obedience. In John 15:5 Your son said, "apart from me, you can do nothing." My spiritual life is being transformed as I give up on my ability to obey You and trust fully on You to do obedience in me. I didn't give up on obedience. I gave up on trying harder. You gave me the ability to make a choice. This is my choice. Father, do obedience in me... for Your glory.

I know that you answer some prayers progressively. I also have seen that You bring about obedience through suffering. Even Jesus "learned obedience by the things which He suffered" (Hebrews 5:8).  In 1 Peter 4:1-2 You have written:

  • "Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God" (1 Peter 4:1-2).

Yes, sin can cease. Cessation from sin can come about through pain... lots of physical pain. And, yes, it is worth it. 1 Peter says, "arm yourselves also with the same mind". We should arm ourselves with the mindset that Christ had. He was willing to suffer to do Your will. That willingness is armor. It is hard for Satan to intimidate a saint into sin, when the saint is willing to suffer for His Lord. As I suffer pain, I fix my spiritual eyes on You. In intense pain, I have spent long periods meditating, seeing Your son on the cross in my mind's eye. Help me to make good use of all of my pain. Instead of focusing on the pain, I will dwell on You. By prayer, I can do this. I turn, turn, turn and behold the You, my Lord who is within me.1.3

I thank you for the obedience You have done in me!

If I disobey Your Spirit, I am not walking by the Spirit. But, by prayer You will grant obedience. By the prayer You have given and by the power of Your Spirit within me, I can walk by the Spirit. All glory belongs to You!

Amen
