What Does 2 Peter 1:21 Mean? Carried Along By the Holy Spirit

Day 17

"20... knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation. 21 For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit"

1 Peter 1:20-21

Prayer

My Heavenly Father, your prophecies equip us for the work of service to the building up of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4 :11-12). They are for our strengthening, exhortation, and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3). A prophet's prophecy may miraculously disclose the secrets of another person's heart to bring about conviction, worship or conversion (1 Corinthians 14:24-25). Prophecies May foretell the future (Acts 21:10, 2:30).

Some say that prophecy in the New Covenant has ceased. But prophecy will not cease until the "perfect" or "complete" has come... when we see Christ "face to face"... and we "know fully" as we have been "fully known" (1 Corinthians 13:9-12). You have at least two prophets who are yet to come (Revelation 11:3).

You said:

"For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit" (1 Peter 1:20-21).

The prophecies of Your scriptures were not the invention of men. What they spoke and recorded in the scriptures was not a "private interpretation" of Your message. Though they wrote using the language and vocabulary they possessed, their personal understanding (interpretation) did not alter the meaning of Your message.

Your prophecies did come through "holy men". But, by "Holy" You don't mean perfect, You mean different or set apart. This scripture was originally written in Greek. And the English word "holy" comes from the Greek word "hagios". We translate the Greek word hagios as either holy or saint. So, hagios is how You describe all who believe in You. We are different, set apart.

So, holy men, men set apart for Your purposes, received Your words from the Holy Spirit. Yes Father, You have ordained a spiritual authority structure in the invisible Heavenly realm.3.1 It is seen in the relationships between Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Son and the Holy Spirit only speak what You Father have commanded (John 12:49, John 16:13). 3.1

Father, You have ordained that Your words of prophecy come to man through the Holy Spirit. Accordingly, Your Holy Spirit gave men the words of Your prophecy and they spoke them. As Your word in this verse says, the "will of Man" had nothing to do with it. So, Your holy men did not distort Your holy words as they spoke.

Your word says that the prophets were "moved by" or carried along by Your Holy Spirit. And this working of the Holy Spirit resulted in the words being spoken by them. The will of man did not produce Your message or distort it.

In this passage, 1 Peter 1:21, You revealed just one of the many functions of the Holy Spirit... prophecy. Thank you for revealing this in Your word! For, how can we walk by the Spirit, if we don't know what the Holy Spirit does?
