What Does 1 Peter 1:12 Mean? Preached the Gospel by the Holy Spirit

Day 11

"these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven "

1 Peter 1:12

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I heard the Gospel (Good News) over half a century ago. A preacher preached Matthew 11:28. He talked about every word and phrase of that verse. I left the church and thought, 'that preacher made me memorize that verse". It stuck in my mind.

I thought it was a man who preached. It was. But, he preached by the Holy Spirit. You sent Your Holy Spirit from heaven into that preacher at his conversion (John 14:16-17). Your Holy Spirit gave him words of the Gospel (Ephesians 6:18-19, 1 Peter 1:12).4.4b By faith, he preached the words You gave him.

When I could no longer wage the war of life, I called out to You in darkness. Your Holy Spirit brought those words of Matthew 11:28 to my mind (1 Peter 1:12). You entered into me... bringing peace like a flood. I was in the Spirit for three days.C That night You delivered me from the domain of darkness into the kingdom of Your Son (Colossians 1:13).A7 I have never been the same.

After conversion, Your Holy Spirit continues to speak the Gospel to me through preachers... to mature me in the faith, so I can walk by the Spirit.4.7

My Lord, Your gospel applies to conversion. It also applies to helping converts grow in their faith. I know this because Paul desired to preach the gospel to the Christians in Rome (Romans 1:8, 15). He preached the gospel to Christians because the gospel addresses more than conversion. So, Your Gospel converts unbelievers. It also increases the faith and love of believers (sanctification). This is done through prayer, fellowship and the word.3 Praise to Your name!

In this passage, 1 Peter 1:12, You revealed just one of the many functions of the Holy Spirit... preaching the Gospel through men. Thank you for revealing this in Your word! For, how can we walk by the Spirit, if we don't know what the Holy Spirit does?

You deserve all praise!

Amen.
